(1 Oenothera fruticosa, Shrubby Oenothera 2. Origanum Dictamnus, Dittany of Crete) A beautifully hand colored botanical plate of the Shrubby Oenothera and the Dittany of Crete, by F. Sansom after a drawing by Syndham Edwards (8 x 10 3/4 inches). The plate appoints the artist as well as the engaver. It was originally part of “A Complete Dictionary of Practical Gardening”, comprehending all the modern improvements in the art. The book was written by Alexander McDonald under the pseuonym of R. W. Dickson and pubslished in 1806 by R. Taylor for George Kersley, still using the plates that claim the latter as publisher. It was rightly famous for its decorative plates showing flowers only.
